Matilda

Matilda introduces readers to the world of protagonist, Matilda Wormwood. Growing up, she has to deal with indifferent parents and a lazy older brother who overlook her very obvious special abilities. A child prodigy, she is far more intelligent than other kids her age and seems to have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Her family, however, thinks that she is foolish to pursue educational activities as they themselves are not highly educated.
Hilarity ensues when Matilda starts to get back at her parents for their unkindness towards her. She also learns that her father who seemingly owns a successful car resale business is swindling his customers. Due to her parents ignorance, they are late in enrolling her at the local school. Matilda finds respite and love with her teacher, Miss Honey.
Matilda goes on to narrate how Miss Honey is a kind teacher who loves all her students but takes a keen interest in Matilda. She soon realizes Matilda's genius. Matilda herself discovers that she has telekinetic abilities and decides to put them to good use.
All is not well at Matilda's school and trouble comes in the form of Miss Trunchbull, the formidable headmistress. She metes out terrible punishments to students and scares them to a great extent, all in the name of discipline. She even wrongfully punishes Matilda because her father sold her a faulty car. When Matilda discovers that Miss Trunchbull has a personal vendetta against Miss Honey, she can stand it no more. What is her next plan of action? This re-issue edition was published in 2013 by Penguin UK and is available in paperback .
